March Slice of Life Story Challenge: Day 5 of 31 / Sleeping

Sleeping

Today's Slice begins with a list of things I have done to try to get my baby to fall asleep.

Nursing
Rocking
Holding
Singing
Stroller Riding
Car Riding
Swinging
Swaddling
Taking off the Swaddle
Putting on a Magic Sleep Suit
Taking off the Magic Sleep Suit
Playing music
Playing white noise
Passing to Daddy

Today is historic. Because today my baby fell asleep on his own, in his crib, Ok, he may have been wearing his sleep suit. And I may have nursed him beforehand. There also may have been some rocking, singing, and swinging involved. But I put him down, awake, and he fell asleep, in the crib, on his own. I feel like a superhero. Today I am choosing to celebrate this victory.

  1. Yea Tommy for falling asleep on your own. But even more than that, yea MOMMY for helping Tommy to find his own way to sleep.

BTW: It's only been three years since I had Izzy and they didn't have magic sleep suits back then. Should I have another, I'll have to look into one!

    1. Oh it is truly magic. I know you and I have had similar experiences with infant sleep. And let me state for the record I am not a paid spokesperson. Just a happy parent.

    1. Dana you have so much to look forward to. I can't wait to read your Slices about your little one!

  3. My daughter raved about what I think is titled The Sleep Book-there was a tough period with the first baby. Sometimes leaving them alone is less stimulation, but it isn't always the magic formula either. Try not to worry, each week changes anyway, often for the more settled.

    1. Thanks Linda that's great advice. I am certainly hoping for the "more settled" direction!

  4. What is this magic sleep suit that you speak of? I need one for Jackson! I love the list -- ours is just about the same : )

    1. It's the Baby Merlin Magic Sleep Suit. Again, I am not a spokesperson! But it works. Swaddling did not. It calms T right down and I'm certain he sleeps longer with it. Plus it looks hilarious!

  5. Celebrate and enjoy, it can be so hard and exhausting and frustrating and tiring and worrisome ... The list goes on and on. But stay strong mama and be assured this too shall pass ... Really it will, I'm living proof. In the meantime ... Do whatever works!!

  6. Bravo! Isn't that the best feeling in the world...knowing he can sleep...himself! A milestone. I remember with our first son not realizing that we have to teach a baby to fall asleep; a real shocker to an A+ sleeper! But, I digress... Good for you! I hope he keeps showing you his skills and that your list of pre-sleep activities grows shorter with each passing day. :)
